Bicycle Use

Last UpdateApril 15, 2010

Bicycles and motorbikes are a convenient way to get around town. When left around train stations, however, they can obstruct the pathways of pedestrians, impede emergency activities and create an unnecessary eyesore. The use of umbrellas and mobile phones is prohibited while riding a bicycle.
A city ordinance prohibits leaving bicycles in the areas around train stations. Abandoned bicycles will be impounded and taken to a storage facility. Owners will have to pay an impound and management fee to reclaim their vehicles (2,000 yen for bicycles, 3,000 yen for motorbikes), so be sure to store your bike in a bicycle lot. To register to use a feebased bicycle lot, contact the lot.
