What to do when a child is born

Registration

(1) Birth notice: Submit a notice of birth to the Citizens' Registration and Affairs Section of the City Office within 14 days of the date of birth along with a birth certificate issued by a doctor.
(2) Complete foreign resident registration within 60 days of the date of birth (individuals who submit a birth notice to a city other than Nishitokyo must obtain a birth notice submission receipt or a certificate of items registered in the foreign registry).
(3) Apply for a passport for the child at the embassy.
(4) Apply for a visa at the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau within 30 days of the date of birth.
