What is a Nursery School?
Nursery schools provide care for children whose parents/guardians cannot care for them during the day due to work, illness or nursing care obligations. Standard nursery school hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but after hours care beyond 6:00 p.m. may be available on an as-needed basis. Because nursery school hours vary depending on the school, contact the respective school for more information. Nursery schools hold seasonal events such as field trips, athletic meets and festivals, and also hold monthly birthday parties, evacuation drills and body measurements. Routine health exams are provided by a doctor twice a year.
Enrollment Application
Distribution and Acceptance of Applications
Applications may be obtained from the Nursery Section (City Office Tanashi Bldg. 1F) and from individual nursery schools. Applications by mail are not accepted. You will be asked about your family situation on your enrollment application.
Application Deadline
Enrollment during the year (filling vacant positions: those wishing to enroll from May to February of the following year): 15th of every month (or the previous business day if this falls on a non-business day).
Enrollment at the start of the school year (April 1): The "open enrollment" period that is generally held in December.
* Nursery school enrollment starts on the first day of every month. For details regarding the "open enrollment" period, contact the Nursery Section.
Facilities other than nursery schools include licensed daycare centers, unlicensed daycare centers and nannies, all of which provide care for smaller numbers of children.
