Obtaining Medical Treatment

Be sure to bring your health insurance card with you when receiving medical treatment at a medical institution. Some large hospitals that provide advanced medical treatments require patients to have a referral to receive care. Please check with your provider before your first visit.

Helpful Phrases

~が(いた)い(~ ga itai) = X hurts
~が(くる)しい(~ ga kurushii) = X is extremely painful
(ねつ)がある(Netu ga aru) = I have a fever
下痢(げり)している(Geri shiteiru) = I have diarrhea
(からだ)がだるい(Karada ga darui) = I feel weak
初診(しょしん)(Shoshin) = first visit
外来(がいらい)(Gairai) = outpatient
入院(にゅういん)(Nyu-in) = admission to a hospital
薬局(やっきょく)(Yakkyoku) = pharmacy
保険証(ほけんしょう)(Hokensho) = health insurance card
検査(けんさ)(Kensa) = test
